Dear potential Murder Mystery Writer:
At Guilt & Co. we are constantly striving to think outside the box, and one of our most recent (and most exciting ideas) is a monthly Murder Mystery.
• Every attendee will pay $5 for a character card, and at the end of the evening, the person who solves the mystery will take home half the door proceeds and the writer will take home the other half.
• The character card will give them:
-a name
-a profession
-a brief description
-why they are on the scene
-an alibi
• We will need 100 characters, so i imagine the descriptions will be relatively brief, possibly in point form.
• You may wish to include an objective other than discovering the murderer. Perhaps some characters will have objectives that involve meeting another character to find a clue, or being in a certain place at a certain time (with other characters) so they can share their information with one another.
• I imagine the easiest way to reveal the murderer would be to create contrasting alibis. For example: 11 people have the alibi of “i was at the diner” but they all recall only seeing 9 people other than themselves. One of those people must be the murderer.
* You may wish to pose a couple questions that we can put on cards to stimulate the investigation.
• Please also provide a synopsis of what happened, in the case that nobody solves the mystery.
• The murderer will receive a $20.00 gift certificate for G&Co.
• We will have a small tickle trunk on site, with some costume items (which will be small to start but we hope to grow over time), so specifying an era ahead of time will be important so people can dress up.
• You can work with me, the manager of the room, in requesting particular tickle trunk items that match certain character descriptions.
